#8613 closed defect (fixed)

Chat Log doesn't preserve/save aliases

Reported by: pi++ Owned by: nobody
Milestone: Adium 1.3 Component: Logging
Version: Severity: normal
Keywords: log alias Cc:
Patch Status:

I'll explain that with an example: Suppose I'm talking with a friend of mine that has the alias/nickname "AdiumIsGreat!".
The day after he changes his alias into "AdiumSucks!"
If I open the chat log, all the conversations that I had with him shows the alias "AdiumSucks!" instead of "AdiumIsGreat!" (a much better nickname). In my opinion, Adium should save the aliases in the logs (like Pidgin does).

Ah, and in case you were wondering... Adium is Great! ;)

I also think the Alias should be stored in the XML chatlogs. With a toggle button to switch between UID and Alias (which would show the alias used at the time of writing). I believe most other messengers with chat logs do store the original alias (I know for a fact that MSN does).

(In [23660]) Store the contact's display name within the XML chat log, and make use of it when displaying the log if no associated contact can be found. Fixes #9891. Fixes #8613. Note that we still prefer an alias on an actual contact overthe stored one, on the basis that this is most likely what you prefer to see for that contact at this time. This could be toggle-able or configurable if desired.
