#8260 closed defect (fixed)

Address book icons don't override user's icon even when set to do so

Reported by: yakkow Owned by: nobody
Milestone: Adium 1.3 Component: Adium Core
Version: Severity: normal

Patch Status:

Description

Since upgrading to Leopard, I've noticed that some of my Yahoo contacts are showing the user's buddy icon rather than the icon I have assigned to them in my address book. The name is showing up correctly, but not the buddy icon.

Both "use address book images as contacts' icons" and "even if the contact already has a contact icon" are checked in my preferences, and I have tried trashing the preferences and starting over just to make sure.

So far I have only noticed this on a few contacts, all on Yahoo; other contacts are showing the correct behavior. The contacts in question were correctly showing their address book icons before the Leopard upgrade.

Anyone know why this would happen for only Yahoo contacts? Is there something specific about the Yahoo code that would allow it to override the normal behaviour?

Did 1.1.4 help at all? I don't think there were any updates that should fix this, but you never know :)

It doesn't only apply to yahoo contacts. I have several MSN contacts that show similar behavior. Strangely that it doesn't apply to all of my contacts. Only some refuse to use my address book picture.

Oh, and no, 1.1.4 didn't solve the problem :) Forgot to mention that.

Tentative milestone, though I bet more info/troubleshooting on your part might be required later down the road.

I noticed that there's also an occasional nickname sync problem with Address Book where a nickname doesn't end up in Adium.

I'd love to help out with testing here when necessary. Just cont@ct me.

I suffer the same problem with Leo. Couldn't make out any system behind which images are not synchronized. Also it appears to me that it might spread, as I believe to have lost more images than were missing at the beginning. This happens to my ICQ contacts, so I daresay it doesn't have anything to do with the messenger protocol. The only workaround I found for now is to copy and paste images manually from address book to Adium. Working with 1.2b7 by the way

This should be fixed for 1.3, as I've totally rewritten how the multiple sources of user icons are handled and have not come across this bug.

comment:12 Changed 12 years ago by Genesis

I'll check it as soon as the beta becomes available

comment:13 Changed 12 years ago by Genesis

At least for 1.2.1b1 the bug still exists, Was it not implemented yet?

comment:14 Changed 12 years ago by Evan Schoenberg

Note the milestone - 1.3. This has not been fixed in the Adium-1.2 branch, as it required a significant amount of rewriting which has not had sufficient testing to be in a release yet.

Well, let's reopen this ticket please. I have just installed 1.3b2 and instead of an occasional misbehaving user picture, now all my pictures are gone and reset to the user's own picture instead of pictures from my address book. Going to info for these users and selecting a address book card doesn't do anything. It allows me to pick the card but nothing happens and nothing changes. My contact list is a mess again. I'm going back to 1.2 for now. Hopefully this will get fixed soon. :(

Apparently, this bug has another source than the last one, as everything is fine for me now.

comment:17 Changed 12 years ago by Danny Bloemendaal

Perhaps but obviously something is still wrong :)

Apparently, yes. But it's still helpful to know it's not the same bug, just a similar symptom ;-)

Of course. Let me know if I have to do anything to track this down.

As this is apparently a new problem, please open a new ticket with the details of your issue and note the new ticket number here :) We need your help to resolve this problem for 1.3.
