#7059 closed enhancement (fixed)

Provide settable option for enabling automatic update check

Reported by: glpratt Owned by: nobody
Milestone: Adium 1.2 Component: Adium UI
Version: Severity: normal

Patch Status:

Description

Adium X presently checks for updates to the current version upon application launch. Some users may prefer that this behavior not be automatic. There is, however, no control in the preferences to allow for manual update checks only. This issue has existed at least as far back as 1.0. (I don't recall if this happened in the 0.8x series.)

Curiously, there is already a menu item under the "Adium" menu, "Check For Updates…", to perform the manual check.

(In [21262]) Adds update preferences to the general preferences. This includes update checking, sending of profile info, and for now the AIAlwaysUpdateToBetas as an option, which may or may not want to be kept. Fixes #7059.

I'm adding wind to the sails of this one since I have to remotely support someone who is easily confused and I'd rather have the option to manually check for updates when I visit - as I do with Mac OS X et cetera.

It's already there... Prefs>General>Updates then uncheck 'Automatically check for updates'.
