#6729 closed defect (fixed)

dragging from iphoto into dp locks adium

Reported by: macman64 Owned by: nobody
Milestone: Adium X 1.0.3 Component: Adium Core
Version: Severity: normal
Keywords: Cc:
Patch Status:

When I drag from iphoto into the personal tab right above the choose icon button(without clicking it) where it shows your current dp, it makes everything useless for 20-40 seconds. This is on a mac pro 2.66ghz with 1gb of ram. Running adium 1.0.2. When I click choose icon then drop it in there it works fine. Also my cpu usage jumps around %3 to %30(so a little more then %100 of one core)

So i have discovered this is RAM related. When I drag the image it spikes to about 200mb then drops back down. Now if i have message windows open which show the image it spike to about 200mb then drops and stays at 150mb and thats with only one window open. More conversations the higher the ram usage when i do that. So when adium starts using 300mb of ram It slows everything to a halt because i am out of RAM.

Milestone: Adium X 1.0.3

You're using a full size (presumably multiple megapixel if you have a modern digital camera) image. Dragging directly to the image view/image picker uses the image *directly* without any resizing. We should check demensions on a drop like that and bring it down to 96x96 if it's larger than that.

Also, are you implying that you only have 300 mb of memory in your mac pro?

It's more than a loss of memory -- drawing performance in the webkit message view and probably elsewhere is going to be terrible on a 100 mb+ bitmap.

I have 1gb of ram not 300 just the rest is used! I know I don't have much but i will be getting more. Either way it should take 300 mb. and stay at those high numbers. Also the images are between 1mb to 4 mb image files. I am not worried about the spike that is needed its the fact it does not shrink down after if conversations are open.
