#5157 closed enhancement (duplicate)

the mail notification dialog seems overly intrusive, is there a way to use growl for that?

Reported by: Owned by: nobody
Milestone: Component: Adium UI
Version: Severity: minor
Keywords: email notification Cc:
Patch Status:

when I get notification of new gmail via adium, it comes in the form of a pop up dialog which I must dismiss by clicking the ok button. My thinking is that a growl or growl-like notice popup would be more fitting - I don't enjoy clicking ok on that each time a new mail comes in, I prefer to just see a simple notice, glance at it if I want and expect it to go away if I don't react in some short amount of time.

I'm willing to work on the code to make it happen if others agree that it should be implemented that way.

sorry, my mistake ;(

anyone have input on this? I am thinking of tackling it myself but wondering if I'm alone in thinking this is important.

If it's generally a wanted feature then I can try to implement it nicely and contribute a patch.

I wouldn't see a problem with sending that stuff to Growl, but you can't assume that Growl is there.

What exactly is wrong with this dialogue?

it's not that there is a problem with the dialog, I would just make it optional. I like having new mail notices but I prefer the kind that don't require any response from me. I'm not saying it should be removed just that I would enjoy the option to turn it off but have those notices go to growl instead of just turning off notification completely.

maybe I just need to download the gmail notified :)

I really like avoiding extra software, when one does such a good job as adium I don't want to throw gnotify in there as well. and growl is so nice and unified it makes everything event notice very consistent and streamlined.

In general we've been trying to add new preferences/checkboxes/etc to Adium. Can you work within that context? :)

Sure, at least I hope so, I will see what I can do and hopefully I can provide a patch ;)

Sorry, not add. Ugh.

I agree with the dialog boxes being intrusive. They can also hide under other windows. What I would really love to see is the option to have the little duck icon (up in the top bar, near the clock, where you can set your status) change to a duck with an email icon when email is detected for any account. That way I could pitch my gmail and yahoo mail notifier programs.

This is covered already under #6450 (yes slightly newer but it outlines it better).
