Smooth operator visual error

Reported by: Owned by: nobody
Milestone: Adium 1.2 Component: Message View
Version: Severity: minor
Keywords: large message window smooth operator background Cc:
Patch Status: Accepted

I'm using AdiumX version 0.88 running OSX version 10.4.4, using the smooth operator visual style. There appears to be some issues tiling the background image. See screenshot for explanation.

yea i'm having this problem also. Even the ProtoScroll gives me this problem I'm wondering what's wrong with just this message style. All along it's fine until the recent update.

I don't think it's tiling at all. I think those center images are a certain width, and normally cropped to the desired width.

I have found out why. When we drag our message box too big, then the white thing will appear. It is actually fine once u reduce the size of your message box. That white thing will be removed. Please don't throw away smooth operator. Hope it helps.

This is actually just a problem with the smooth operator background images. Rather than having a left side and right side with the curved corners plus a tiling center, it's got large chunks for each section. When the actual width of the png file is exhausted, you no longer have message background, but instead chat window background.

This can be solved via adjusting the way the css handles the background drawing, or by making the PNG files for the chat background wider (the cheap way).

If you really love smooth operator, it should be an easy fix - otherwise you might try one of the alternatives on or wait for smooth operator 2 (supposedly in the works ;))

I just fixed this along with #6141. It can be included in 1.2 or later, but it would be good if someone else could verify I didn't create any major problems.

Not actually a diff patch, but shouldn't be hard to apply... just write over the old one.

(In [21768]) Smooth Operator fix from jas8522 for the background bubble breakage which occurred when the window width was large. I pngcrushed the image files. Fixes #2997
