#176 closed defect (fixed)

dock icons don't work with case-sensitive HFS+

Description

I discovered (and isolated) a bug regarding adium dock icons: With my clean installation of tiger, only the included Adiumy dock icons would show up in the dock, but custom icons did not work. I could select other dock icons (such as Milk or Calvin) in the preferences, but the icon in the dock would not change from the Adiumy duck.

After trying a number of things, reformatting my Hardrive from case-sensitive HFS+ to non-case-sensitive HFS+, which fixed the problem (along with a number of others in other programs).

Thanks!

Case insensitive is an option apple gives you for if you know what you are doing. Moving this to a low priority. Can probably be pushed to 1.0 if need be.

Thing to examine: is this our bug, or the fault of poorly named extras?

It's poorly named xtras -- properly named and described (via the Info.plist) icons work fine. NSBundle methods don't allow you to specify case-insensitivity for loading resources, so we'd have to make a giant mess to "fix" these (i.e. treat the files as case-insensitive on a case-sensitive file system), and it would come with a significant performance hit. Marking this wontfix.

This is not that hard to fix; we can take care of it once, at install time, and be good to go from there.

(In [19250]) Fix the case of the extension when installing AdiumXtras, which makes them work properly on case-sensitive file systems. Fixes #176. Refs #6620.
