I received the same message when I signed on last night.

Apparently they are not completely removing all third party access, just older methods of access. There's a really good article here - https://arstechnica.com/business/2017/02/aol-will-cut-off-third-party-app-access-to-aim/

Unfortunately, I don't know what type of access they are going to be allowing for third party apps, but hopefully this will help in finding information to update to whatever newer authentication method they will be using.

That arstechnica article was updated to say that what is really being shut down is MD5-based authentication. Does anybody know what it would take to update Adium to a newer hash function? The article says that Pidgin will get updated (and probably it is updated by now).

Yes, a new version Pidgin was released on 9 March with updated AIM dev and dist IDs assigned by AOL. We are yet to receive ours.

The author of the ars Technica article has now sent a reminder to his AOL contact.

Oh. We have received IDs in the meantime and are preparing a release. :-)

(In 395e617c3bdc) For AIM, use the DevID and the distID supplied to us by an AOL representative in March 2017. Fixes #17097.

So when will 1.5.10.3 be released? AIM login is now broken.

Oddly, AIM is working again through Adium, for now at least.
