Contact list scrolling in Lion

Reported by: yelly Owned by: robotive
Milestone: Adium 1.4.4 Component: Adium UI
Version: Severity: minor
Keywords: 10.7 Lion Cc:
Patch Status:

Description

Summary

The new scrolling behaviour in Lion allows for a weird interaction with the contact list that allows you to scroll bits of the contact list in and out of view.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Install OS X Lion
  2. Open Adium
  3. Try scrolling a contact list that is fully displayed.

Expected results

Nothing.

Actual results

The list scrolls in and out of view and just looks weird overall.

Regression

I've only noticed it under lion, but don't have an older OS around to test it with. Probably doesn't look the same under SL, but might still behave weirdly.

Works fine here. A screenshot or screencast may help :)

I think the best solution for this is somehow locally disabling the rubber-band-scrolling feature in the contact list a-la iTunes.

  • Milestone set to Adium 1.4.x
  • Owner set to robotive
  • Severity changed from normal to minor

This is an easy fix.

Personally, I think we should always disable the rubberband effect (everywhere) if there's not enough content to warrant a scrollbar. The text input area looks even more strange with the rubberband effect. :)

Agreed. Also, we might want to consider adding a safari style background for rubber-band scrolling (content shadow over metallic backdrop) in message views (in chat windows and in the previews in the prefs). Having the white background when you scroll it out of bounds doesn't look very good.

(In e74f6e415da3) Avoid the bouncing effect when scrolling on Lion. This looks very bad when using a borderless window.
