#10253 closed enhancement (wontfix)

Add optional “Blur” effect for transparent windows

Reported by: enkuturi Owned by: nobody
Milestone: Component: Adium Core
Version: Severity: normal
Keywords: Cc:
Patch Status:

Description

Adding a checkbox in the appearance pref pane for enabling this (Leopard only) feature used in some system windows, would be a lot useful for those people who uses transparent windows, because sometimes when there's text behind the contact list or chat window they look pretty bad and disordered/cluttered.

This should be enabled for the contact list and the message windows and will make adium a lot cooler :D

Can you give an example of this effect in use?

Ugh. That's not even in 10.5, is it?

Menu's *might* blur a bit, but I can't tell for sure because they're so close to 100% opaque now I can only barely see things underneath them anyway :P

Here's someone who implemented blurring for transparent iTerm windows: blur for iTerm

Disclosure: My company publishes the CGSInternal headers linked from that post.

Too funny! I saw this ticket when it was opened, and didn't think too much about it. I saw today's iTerm update with blurring and thought about this ticket. Googling, I found your blog comment pointing back here. :)

We don't need tickets like this hanging around as open tickets in our database. The fact that I'm closing this ticket, however, shouldn't stop anyone from making this plugin.

Hi guys. I have found a skin which applies the blur effect to Adium itself by installing some files http://www.macthemes.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=16788165&p=1. So, it is actually possible and it HAS been made before by user community.
Of course there is that “blur for iTerm” thing too, and, as most of you have noticed, blur effect DO works and do exists on Snow Leopard (just watch the live blur of Dock's stacks and lots of other apps). I just wanted you to know that this is actually possible under OS X and remarking that this feature is very requested and it would be great to having it implemented ;D
