msn frequently drops connection or has switch board problems

since the last update, i have had the same frequent problem with msn. error messages read:

Message could not be sent because an error with the switchboard occurred Message may have not been sent because a timeout occurred

i am on mac os 10.4.11 on a powermac g4. my understanding is that my friend is having the same issue running the latest version of osx on a new macbook.

the issue only gets resolved by logging off and on again, but re occurs 10-15 minutes later. i cannot tell you how annoying it's become.

There should be a 1.3 beta available at  http://beta.adiumx.com by the end of this weekend, please try that when it becomes available a report back on whether the problem continues.

I can confirm this. I have been suffering from this for quite a few releases. Problem persists even in Adium 1.3b2. They dropouts seem to happen at random. More often than not, it will start happening when I initiate a chat with someone, and if an error occurs there, it affects the rest of my conversations. I have also noticed that the Error appears at exactly 1 minute after a sent message, if that helps with anything.

Please get us debug logging of this occurring using 1.3b2. See CurrentAdiumDebug for how to do so. You can use the beta though - rather than the 1.2.5-debug release.

i updated to the beta version, and didn't have much of a problem; however the final version seems to have the same error. i was having to log off and on within 20 minutes of updating. i will upload a debug log the next time it happens... which i'm assuming will literally be any minute now. grr.

If you can't reproduce it with the beta, then the problem may have been solved. Please continue to use the beta, and if it happens again, post debug logging from using it.

I see nothing there showing an MSN disconnection - only AIM connectivity details. Please don't paste things in the comment box as it is nearly unreadable as such - use the Attach button.

Please follow the directions under CurrentAdiumDebug using 1.3b2 and post a log that ONLY has the MSN info (ie: don't connect to AIM). It doesn't do much good if you can't reproduce it with 1.3b2 because that means the problem is fixed!

maynardcm: that's alright, just keep AIM disconnected so that you're only on MSN at the the time so we can be sure to capture relevant information. Also make sure you're doing this with the 1.3 beta.

" servconn read error, len: -1 error: Operation timed out" is the problem - when an operation times out, it's either because the server is not working properly or because your network connection is to blame - either way it's not an Adium bug.

Not sure if this is related, but I recently opened up  http://trac.adiumx.com/ticket/10146 which displays the same symptoms (frequent disconnects). I traced the disconnections down to whenever someone else in my office also tries to connect to MSN Messenger through Adium. So basically, when more than one person behind the same corporate proxy tries to connect, everyone gets disconnected. Apparently causes a 500 error as well, according to my wiresharking.

Not sure if you're in an environment with multiple people using Adium, but just thought I'd bring it up.

no im on my own 3g modem. obviously there's some sort of odd thing going on with msn in general. from what i've gathered, loads of people are having the same problem. i guess im going to have to go back to using msn directly. seems to be the only real solution.

I am using Adium 1.3.6 on Mac OS 10.5.8 and when I try to talk to people on MSN, it can work at first, but then I don't get a reply and then after a while get: Message could not be sent because an error with the switchboard occurred.

I can close Adium down, and then reopen again, and might get one reply, but then when I try to write, I get the same error message after a while.

I am in a wireless network with a strong signal.
