Add to my contact list check box not working

Reported by: neuroticwave Owned by: nobody
Milestone: Component: Service/Jabber (XMPP)
Version: 1.1.3 Severity: normal
Keywords: MeeboMe Meebo Cc:
Patch Status:

Description

When I am logged into my Meebo account via Jabber in Adium, any visitor to a webpage containing a MeeboMe widget linked to my account appropriately appear (after authorization) as a Meebo guest ID in my Adium contact list in the "Buddies" group. When this visitor leaves the webpage containing the widget, however, his Meebo Guest ID remains in my Adium contact list as an offline contact until manually removed, even if I unchecked the "Add to my Contact List" option when I granted the initial authorization request.

Please try adding a normal Jabber user and don't check the 'add to my contact list' option .. let's see if they get added anyway. This is very likely a protocol or gui issue. Or you can send me your Jabber.org user ID and I'll add you :)

Using a Jabber.org account, I added my Meebo ID as a contact. This resulted in an authorization request sent to the Meebo account in Adium. I unchecked "Add to my Contact List." The Jabber ID still displayed in contact list and remained there after the Jabber account had logged off. I ultimately had to remove the Jabber ID from contact list manually.

I did the exact same thing a second time, but instead of using the Meebo account in Adium, I used a second Jabber.org account. Only difference this time was that when I received the authorization request in Adium, the checkbox to "Add to My Contact List" was not present. On authorization, the Jabber ID displayed in the contact list, remained there after that ID had logged off, and ultimately had to be removed from the contact list manually.

Sounds like something to do with granting a contact authorization causing him to be listed on your list whether he's added to the roster or not. Could you see if this behavior occurs using Pidgin 2.2.x, as well? That would tell us if it's a libpurple problem or an Adium one.

I think  #p479 essentially covers it. If you read the comments, they describe scenarios wherein granting authorization results in the buddy being automatically added to the list... the only difference is that with Pidgin, it then pops up another dialog asking if they want to add the buddy to the list, resulting in duplicate contacts. But that ticket covers both of those bugs, the first of which is the same as this one.

#p479 has been fixed in libpurple. Refer to #7171.
