Description

Adium is a GREAT icq client with bunch of cool options and customization, really! But it is missing one very important (at least for me and my friends) option: privacy/invisibility settings. I noticed that in the latest version "invisible" status has been added, but there is still no way to manage my invisible list - add persons who see me in invisible mode and so on. for this i must use the client by icq.com or the flash icq version at go.icq.com. It would be really great to have that feature, wich is supported by all of the x86 icq clients out there.

How exactly do i see this working:

A panel in the Preferences menu, called Privacy / Visibility. There one has a list of all his contacts and can choose wich one can see him while he is invisible and wich one not, or if they can see him at all (even when one is online). Here is a link to a picture of a windows im client called miranda im, and how this has been solved:

Agreed, this feature is very important to me as well.

As far as that screenshot goes- to me it seems more logical to have the "clear" guy mean you are invisible to that person and the solid guy to mean that person can see you.

wtf. Why was komrade the owner of this bug? AFAIK he's not a developer.

Enhancements get low priorities guys. Stop messing with fields you shouldn't be touching.

People have been bitching about the lack of privacy settings for years in Adium. Guys, stop blowing it off as unimportant when users keep asking for it! EVERY other IM client has it, WHY CAN'T ADIUM!?!?

For starters, 'cause as far as I'm aware we have no protocol level support for this from libgaim?

Gaim supports this, so I guess libgaim should also

Ability to block incoming messages outside the contact list would be nice too...

most recent anonymous: that's a separate ticket.

as on icq i get round 10 messages from unkown users (which is not compatible to working) - so i wish you implement the visible list as soon as possible

#p466 for invisible status showing online  #p579 for a way to manage the invisible list. We would have to have a GUI for this though.

I believe the invisible list is a different list from the blocked users list in ICQ.

Changed 3 years ago by Justine

But isn't the invisible list saved on the server?
Therefore Adium should load the settings from there, so that this wouldn't be managed in Adium itself.
Correct me, if I'm wrong.

Justine: I don't know for sure, but that does sound likely. If that's the case then we need this feature to exist in Libpurple (as it manages all connectivity functions). Once it can be retrieved with Libpurple, then we only need a UI to adjust the list.

I believe there is a SoC project suggestion for Pidgin to update the ICQ protocol - I would guess that the invisible list management is included in that project, so if someone takes it on then we could see this ability being added sometime in the next year or so, though I don't see it being done any time soon.

Hi there!

In Adium > Privacy Settings…

When I delete contacts from my "Allow only certain contacts" Privacy level, they are moved to the "Block certain contacts" level, and viceversa.

Is there a damn way to permanently remove contacts from both lists??

They also do re-appear when I quit and open Adium again - which is so annoying!

Thanks in advance for your input!

 #p579 has been closed.

"You can organize your ICQ invisible list with Pidgin. Just go to the privacy settings, choose your account and select »block only users below« (this should be selected by default). There you can add and remove ICQ UINs. Alternatively, you can just right click any ICQ buddy in your buddy list and select »block« (which means: »be invisible to«, the buddy is not blocked)."

  • status changed from new to closed

Closing all "waiting on libpurple" tickets. There's no reason to keep them around as open, and largely go ignored anyway. File a ticket at  http://developer.pidgin.im for any functionality you want to see.
