Are you sure? MSN7's conversation closed notices are sent when the window is minimized, among other situations.

Of course, this isn't anything I can be sure of. I just find it very weird, that it seems to happen almost exactly a minute after the last message was sent/received.

(See screenshot, that I forgot to post at first.)

My solution to this problem would be to remove the MSN conversation closed notices :).

While I truly understand your argument adamiser, there's two reasons not to:

* I have them enabled because I actually like to know (it's fun teasing them about my extended knowledge) * It doesn't remove the problem (only for me)

So that's not really an option.

Adium 0.81 is already out, so it can't be the milestone. Please don't set the milestone.

I get this. It always happens 1 minute afterwards...I'm sure the people I talk to aren't *that* consistent about closing/minimising :) and please don't remove the feature entirely :)

I get this problem, too... It'd be handy to have it fixed again, but it wouldn't suck to much if it was completely removed.

AFAIK, it was only a lucky hack in the first place.

It's an MSN7 issue... a minute after messages are sent, information identical to the window closing is sent, or that's my understanding from the gaim team at least.

  • version changed from 0.82 to 0.81
  • severity changed from normal to minor
  • milestone set to Adium X 0.82

I also often get "window closed" messages when this is not actually the case (if I am to believe my friends!) It doesn't happen on the MSN client so there must be a solution. There must be some way of distinguishing a genuine 'window closed' alert!

  • milestone changed from Adium X 0.82 to Sometime after 1.0

I'm gonna bump this to post-1.0 (aka "later") since it looks like it's dependent on the gaim people finding a fix.

I have noticed this as well. I just thought people were growing tired of me and kept closing the conversation window to get rid of me :-).

just to confirm what some people said, i get the same message "*somebody@… closed the conversation window." almost always after 60 seconds of idle time. So if 60 seconds passes after the last message (incoming or outgoing), the message appears. it is a bit annoying. but at least i now know they're not actually closing the window if it happens exactly 60 seconds after the last message.

Just to say that the problem is persistant here, but only from Adium-to-Adium conversations on MSN. It works pretty well for Adium-to-genuine-MSN or from Genuine-MSN-to-Adium, but not when I'm chatting with a friend who also uses Adium. In this case, we get no notice at all, even if we close the window on purpose :-S

  • status changed from new to closed
  • milestone changed from Waiting on libgaim to Adium X 1.0
  • resolution set to wontfix
  • field_haspatch set to 0

Converstaion closed notices are removed for 1.0 since they can no longer function properly.

Just in case anyone is curious, the related event in the Gaim bugtracker is here:  http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=235&atid=100235&func=detail&aid=1205677

According to the devs it has been fixed in CVS (which assumedly is being rolled into the 2.0 version, now in beta).

I'm not sure what nosnilmot has in mind when he says it's fixed in for the next release; it appears that fixed means removed, as conversation closed notices are completely removed.
