invisible status doesn't work in ICQ

i use adium version x0.87 and the invisible status doesn`t work. Adium shows all my ICQ contacts that i am invisible. thats not the correct function of the invisibility status!

Can you please check this ?

normaly at the invisible status i think: the other user can not see me! only i write to them, than they can see me as invisible. If my Status is invisble all user see my as invisible, the same like im online, im working, ... - so im not invisible - im visibly with the status invisible

I have the same problem. I noticed it first yesterday. Maybe it is just a coincidence but as you can see from our e-mail addresses we are both from Germany. I do not know if it is possible but could that have something to do with the problem?

When you are set invisible on ICQ, you appear offline to users on your contact list. Should you choose to message them, you thus appear online with a status set to "invisible" (to show the distinction).

Yes, he is right, in the latest version when you log in with invisible mode on, you appear to others to be away or available. If you click "invisible" again, it makes it appear you are offline. It IS a bug.

Yes, also when I am set to invisible, people start chatting with me as I appear not only visible to them but also available. This is true in AIM I don't know about the others. I am using version .88

I have the same problem. Other people can see me although I am invisible. But to them my status is not visible or away. etc. They see me like I´m invisible and they´re on my visible-list. I hope I explained that right. In the original ICQ client they see me with that icon that has an eye inside, like i said, like they´re on my visible list. Sometimes I just want to use adium without everyone knowing that I´m online, so that I can look who´s online and then decide to whom I wanna talk to

Same problem here (using 0.89). ADDITIONALLY the problem is sometimes, to some people, the other way around: I appear to them as offline instead of invisible, even if I am talking to them via ICQ .

any news on this. I want to be able to set my ichat account to invisible so that noone usiing ichat with me as a buddy can see that I am offline - I would appear invisible. I have used remote desktop to view a colleagues screen and although in adium i am set as invisible....they see me as online. I want to see which of my bussys are online but be selective as to who i contact...and I dont want them to see me at all! 0.89.1

Version 1.0.4 shows me away to other contacts (red dot icon) when my status is invisible (gray dot on mac menu bar). This is incorrect. I set invisible specifically so that i appear offline to all my contacts and can choose to selectively notify individuals by chatting with them that i'm really available if they need to chat with me, just ignore the icon.

Invisible status works in general. We should have protocol-specific tickets for instances in which it doesn't work. sgoodman, please open a new ticket with your Sametime-specific issue.

I'd like to agree but I think this ticket was originally meant to be ICQ-specific. At least, that's want to creator of the ticket mentions. Also, the component is "ICQ".

I am not able to reproduce the ICQ invisible status problems described here. I have tested it with contacts using ICQ 5.1 and ICQ 6. The only thing noteworthy that stood out was the fact that I still appeared as "offline" when I wrote to them while being "invisible".

That is the way most (if not all) of the official clients work... when you are set to invisible you should appear offline to all your contacts, otherwise you're not actually 'invisible'. But I think this ticket is becoming too vague and covering too many things at once - probably best to create new ones for the specific issues like Evan suggested.

If anyone is still having issues with invisible status I suggest comparing Adium's behaviour with that of the official/mainline client (not how you think it should work). If you find inconsistencies then create a new ticket outlining exactly how the official client behaves, how Adium behaves and any details about it you can provide. If it's too vague or we cannot reproduce it then the problem will likely not get fixed. Details like 'this bug only happens with contacts using version x of the official client' and 'steps to reproduce this are as follows'... are vital to fixing these kinds of problems.

The reason this doesn't work in ICQ is because Adium/Libpurple doesn't manage an invisible list - only a privacy list for blocking. ICQ also has an invisible list that you manage in order to tell it which users can see you when you're invisible, and those that should not. This is outlined in #471 on which I posted two libpurple tickets that cover all of the invisible status in ICQ issues.

Aside from that, yes the original reporter had mentioned ICQ specifically, but by the time you get through 27 comments it gets rather convoluted and confusing - don't you think it would be simpler to have a new ticket to manage this? I think that's what Evan was getting at. However if you want to have two tickets waiting on libpurple for the same thing then that's no problem. The Pidgin Trac ticket for this is still  #p466

Pidgin ticket has been closed and "invisible" does work for me as well. We know that "ICQ Privacy" (invisible/visible lists etc.) support in Adium sucks.
