MSN and Jabber Status Problems

Reported by: anonymous Owned by: evands
Milestone: Adium X 1.0 Component: Service/MSN
Version: 1.0svn Severity: normal
Keywords: MSN Status Cc:
Patch Status:

Description (last modified by catfish_man) (diff)

Currently it seems that MSN status' of other contacts are not being recieved properly. When you first log in, all contacts will appear as Online and do not update if the contacts are actually away (except they will go to idle status at times).

Seems to be jabber too, see comments

I second this.

With my Privacy work I've been doing, I've found that if you block and then unblock someone that's supposed to be away that listed as available, their status will change from available to their correct status. However, I don't think it displays their away message eg: Busy. But I'm not sure if that's 100% true.

I've run into this with msn as well. Everyone is online except those who have idled, which Adium displays correctly as idle, but not necessary 'away' or 'out to lunch' too.

Anything on this? I know this is a libgaim thing, but I am guessing something just got modified that shouldn't of.

I am experiencing the same problem, and the block/unblock updates the status for me as well.

Same deal here, all MSN contacts appear as online/available, unless they're offline of course. However 'Get info' reports the correct status.

I'd say this is a bug worth looking into sooner rather than later, knowing people's real online status is kinda important :)

I can quadruply confirm this. Blocking and then unblocking your whole msn contact list is kind of a funny workaround, but it works none the less.

bug confirmed yet again, really hoping for a fix soon... this is driving me nuts.

  • milestone set to SVN issues

Did I ever tell anyone that I really hate the msn protocol?

Any of the dev's have any kind of mirical fix for this? Its really annoying not knowing people's status' looking at the contact list.

I know, but svn is for development purposes only. Bugs happen. If you don't like it, just use .89.

Changed 4 years ago by anonymous

has the code changed drastically from 0.89 with regards to status reporting?

Just wanted to add this is also the case for Jabber, so it's not MSN-specific.

I think I've seen this with Jabber contacts.

I have seen this with both MSN, and Jabber account in r15660

Changed 4 years ago by evands

  • status changed from new to closed
  • resolution set to fixed

(In [15693]) The sign on / sign off / status updated events are mutually exclusive as of libgaim 2.0.0, so we need to manually update status when sign on and sign off occur. Fixes #2462.
