display status message in contact list

I can't figure out how to have a contact's status message or away message display under his/her name in the contact list.

Searching the support documentation database yields nothing, although one of the screen shots does show this in effect.

One page in the support database (StatusIcons) makes reference to a "ContactList" page in the Title Index, but it does not exist.

have you tried going to the appearance preferences, choosing customize list layout and then checking off show status?
