Event speech feature request

Description

Right now it is possible for Adium to speak (for example if Jim were to message me with the text "i boned your sister") "Jim, I boned your sister." You can also have Adium speak custom text like "You have a new message." Why not have it so you can have Adium speak the person's name and NOT the message they send you. You can imagine why this would be handy to not have people in the next room hearing your computer say "I boned your sister" and what not, and it seems like this should be pretty feasible. If this were in place I could hear "New Message from Jim" and no one else would be the wiser about how he boned my sister.

Good way to implement this would be to allow special escapes in the speak custom text, like %n for the person's screen name... so you could have "New Message from %n" as the custom text for Jim. Seem reasonable?

following is a back-up of the description of this ticket, in case some fool decides to clobber it with patent nonsense. I wouldn't do this ordinarily, but this description is just so cool.

(In [13429]) * Fixed up some float/int desparities which were likely causing #672. Fixed #672.

  • Speak Text action can now include %n (user name), %a (alias), %m (message), and %t (time), allowing the user much more control over what gets spoken and when. Closes #142
  • Sounds from sound sets are now in separate submenus in the Play Sound action, making the menu much more usable particularly when many .AdiumSoundsets are installed. Fixes #762

Had fun while waiting on dinner to cook before I go back to studying :)

Either I'm misunderstanding, or it's not actually fixed. I have version .84 and when I set event preferences for "contact returns from away" "to speak the text:"%n"" what I hear is "percent-n", rather than the person's name.

.84 was released in August; it's difficult for .84 to have a fix not made until SEPTEMBER, so yeah, you misunderstood.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll look forward to getting the fix when the next version comes out. I had assumed that "fixed" meant "fixed in the most recent version available for download," rather than "fixed in a future version that's not yet available."

The development process isn't static, release-to-release. Releases are merely snapshots of the progress thus-far.
