Online Users Appear Offline

After installing Adium 0.83, I am no longer able to see all of my online contacts. I have Contact Group 1, Contact Group 2 and Contact Group 3. Only Contact Groups 1 & 2 are now showing up with active users in them. Coincidentally, Groups 1 and 2 are both from the same online screen name. I have 2 AIM names and only the primary name is showing up. In addition, none of my MSN or Yahoo contacts are showing up either. If I revert to 0.82, everything works as expected.

If you do View->Show Offline Contacts, do they show up? If so, do they show up as online or offline?

Whether in groups or otherwise, they appear as offline. If set to show offline contacts, they show up there. When trying to message them, it will tell me they're offline, and whether I want to send the message. The message will go through, and I can converse with them, as if they're invisible.

I am having the same behavior, the really strange part is that some of my contacts will show up as online and others won't, but these contacts are not constant across screennames. There are some contacts which only show up on one screenname, but not the other. I only use Adium for AIM, so I can't comment on any other protocols.

Whenever I log in or out, or re-launch Adium, the same people appear online/offline. I had an "offline" friend try toggling invisible a few times, and re-logging in, but it didn't change anything.

I am having the same problem as viserys@…. I only use Adium for AIM and I only have one group. Currently 5 of my contacts are online (I see this when I log on via AIM) but only two of them show up when I use Adium. I just updated today from, I guess, the last version of Adium to 0.83.

I'm not the most computer savvy person, so please help if you can...

I noticed the following output in Console.log after experiencing this issue:

** (process:23829): CRITICAL **: gaim_blist_node_get_string: assertion `node != NULL' failed

It repeats in the log many times, possibly once for each contact, or each online contact. This occurs every time Adium starts up, the only difference between runs being the process number. Hope this is helpful.

On an unrelated note, Trac refuses bug report comments if someone else enters a comment in the time between loading the page and pressing submit. Is this intended?

Same issue with online contacts appearing offline. The tooltips for some of the offline contacts show their status as "Signing Off" or "Last Seen 1 minute ago". Fell back to .82 from VersionTracker.

Debug version from the link above does not correct the problem for me. Console.log still gets entries about the failed assertions. Is there any other step required for the fix, such as dumping the prefs folder? Or is there any other information that could help narrow down the cause/source of the bug?

so playing around, i decided i would kill the debug verion and launch to the official .83 release that was acting buggy for me. It's running without a hitch .... these seems to be an odd little bug.

The debug version didn't fix it for me, but does this help to track down the problem? I updated earlier today to 0.83 and didn't have any problems with online buddies appearing offline, but buddy icons weren't updating. So I ended up trashing ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Users/GUSwim8/libgaim/blist.xml, which got buddy icons updating, but that's when the issue at hand started, with only about 1/3 of my contacts appearing offline. Having not emptied the trash, I put back the original blist.xml file, which fixed the issue. Moving out of the ligbaim folder recreated the bug. Hope this helps....

Yay it's working!! I have no idea why... I re-downloaded .83 from the main site and was going to run it at the same time as the debug (see last post), but tried it on it's own first. Anyway, it seems to be bug-free. I guess the 7th time's a charm?

FYI: I repeatedly resolved/recreated the bug by going back and forth between new blist.xml files created by 0.82 and 0.83, respectively. Hope this helps pin down the issue.

jeffrey@…: The posted builds are Adium 0.83 and libgaim 1.5.0 built from scratch. At this point it looks like 0.83 suffered a two level failure:

1. It appears as if the libgaim binary in our 0.8x svn was outdated or corrupt.
2. It seems that the faulty binary was put in place prior to our final release, but wasn't being copied into builds until a clean was performed before the RC2 release.

These conditions allowed the error to go undetected during our testing phase, sneaking its way into the binary between our release candidate and final release builds.

I'll need to hear more confirmations that these builds work before I'm 100% confident with that analysis, but it seems like a plausible scenario at this point. If it turns our to be true we'll adopt a clean-build only release requirement to prevent this from happening again in the future.

While I can't say for sure any of these builds have worked to get my buddies list as they reappeared when i had both .82 and .83 officials version opened at the same time, they are all there in the debug builds we have been testing.

However, one thing i can confirm in all debug versions we've been testing (including Adam's latest) is that upon launch, i begin to notice processes popping up called "AdiumApplescriptRunner" or "AdiumApplescript". At first they are sparse, but after a few minutes, there are as many as 5 to 10 fluctuating at any given time. At that point my machine (1.5GHz PB G4 1.5G RAM) is nearly unusable and i am forced to force-quit Adiumx. This occurs in all of the .83 version on this page as well as official, but not .82 official...

Anyone else having this problem? I am going to remove my scripts and add them back 1 by 1 to try and narrow this down...

update from my above post... I removed all script from my Adium 2.0 scripts folder and still began seeing instances of the "AdiumApplescriptRunner" and "AdiumApplescript", which i assume are from the built in client scripts. While the number of instances were fewer ie, instead off 5 to 10 fluctuating, it was say, 2 to 6. The OS was still usuable, but noticably sluggish and i would still get the "beachball" of death a few times a minute... i'll have to stick w/.82 for now.

I must say i still love Adiumx and truly appreciate all the hard work of the devs, keep up the good work!

I have made a list as well as a mirror of all of the versions mentioned on this page  krawproductions.com/adiumx I Hope this will make it easier for people to keep track of versions they have tried as well as making it easier do download them when the other servers are loaded up. 1. Get info on a meta contact 2. in the info window, I see the list of the different accounts belonging to the meta contact 3. but when I choose a contact (just before you would click the "-" button) the drawer with the accounts disappears therefore making the - button unavailable

nevermind, soon after i noticed the meta contact problem all kinds of everything started to go sour, so i backed up logs and removed all the prefs & adium application support folder and put a fresh copy of 084 and all is well with meta contacts and everyone appears to be online and offline as they really are
