Facebook status stay available at all time

After upgrading to 1.3.4, the status of facebook contact always stay available (green).

This has been annoying me, too, for a long time! But I'm not sure if it was the Adium upgrade, or something that Facebook did. Because it was around this same time that Facebook adjusted how my friends appear in my chat list on Facebook.com.

This broke when Facebook added groups, but is fixed in beta since 1.4b7

Actually, no. I just received 1.4b7 and all Facebook contacts still show as constantly available with the green status dot.

I've confirmed this behavior persists with 1.4b8 and multiple Facebook users (since I wanted to be sure there wasn't some client dependency at the far end).

Regardless of my Adium status (online, idle, away, invisible), I *always* appear as green/available on Facebook. This is becoming quite problematic, unfortunately.

Is there any information missing to be able to pursue this bug further? Or is it already being quietly worked on?

This bug is most likely a bug in the Facebook plugin which is developed by BigBrownChunx who commented above so he would be the person to ask.

I also just verified this behavior on hgr2541; wasn't expecting any difference, though, since the commit log didn't suggest that fb/libpidgin had changed in the interim.

@Robby: since BigBrownChunx is the owner, I'm pretty sure he sees updates to this ticket, but thanks nonetheless.

I've also found several apparent dupes of this bug when searching through open tickets; is this the tracking bug, or is there another one that I should be updating?

m1b, you will always appear to yourself to be online, however others will see you in the right state away/idle or online/available

The bug reported here was a different one which was fixed... unless all the buddies on your contact list show as only available, when the FB website says otherwise?

BigBrownChunx: Adium's display of my buddies' status is accurate as best I can tell. They show as available/idle/away when they are in each respective state.

My buddies' view of me is the problem. If I'm logged into FB via Adium, I am always seen with a status of available, even if my local status is idle, away, or invisible. I've verified this with multiple buddies using multiple browsers.

At the risk of overclarifying:

my local status = available -> buddies' view of me = available
my local status = idle      -> buddies' view of me = available
my local status = away      -> buddies' view of me = available
my local status = invisible -> buddies' view of me = available

Unfortunately you need to have your away/idle status set for at least 15 minutes before the Facebook servers recognise you as being away/idle. Also, there's no invisible state in Facebook, so setting that won't do anything.

If there's no invisible state, would it be possible to set status my to Away on FB rather than Available? I suppose it might be useful to log me out of FB if I set my Adium state to Invisible; I would chose to use such a pref, though I can also see how others might not want this.

Also, I don't know whether this is an Adium artifact or a function of the FB backend, but I frequently see buddies appear in Idle or Away states when they log in -- wouldn't this behavior suggest there's an immediate way (ie <15m) to set one's state?

BigBrownChunx: can you comment on m1b's last comment? the current situation certainly caught me by surprise. adium tells me i'm invisible, but i'm not.
