Searching by content within Transcripts returns no results when buddy(s) are selected in left panel

Reported by: gefilte Owned by:
Milestone: Adium 1.4 Component: Adium Core
Version: 1.5hg Severity: normal

Description (last modified by Robby) (diff)

This one is easy to reproduce:

  1. Search for a word you know will match some transcript in your history. Note one of the buddies that matched.)
  2. Click on that buddy's icon on the left buddy selection panel At this point, the search results disappear.
  3. Clear your search term. Here you can see the list of all that buddy's transcripts.
  4. Enter your search term again. Again, no results.

(I am not sure what component this belongs to. I don't see one for Transcript Viewer.)

Does this problem remain in 1.3.5?

Yes. Like I said, it's very easy to reproduce.

Okay, I'm sorry I'm stuck with a Windows PC and Pidgin right now.

Ah, okay. That might make Adium development a bit challenging then.

Heh, I'm no developer, just a ticket triager but yeah, it does make things difficult for me. ;)

Okay, absolutely reproducible.

I can confirm this problem still exists in 1.4b15 as I posted (incorrectly) to devel mailing list here:

Are you sure this only happens with a buddy selected on the left? I've found some problems with indexing in general but can't reproduce any cases in which I can find the transcript through global search but not after adding the filter to just search within a single contact.

Okay, I have done some testing. Is the following reproducible for ye?

When opening the Transcript Viewer via

* shift-apple-L search always works, both global and for specific contacts/MUCs.
* right-click on chat tab or by clicking on the toolbar icon search never works, neither global nor for specific contacts/MUCs.

Tested with both 1.4b15 and latest nightly, 1.5hg rev2961.

Replying to Robby:

Confirm the exact behaviors listed above in 1.4b15.

I can find what I want/need with shift-apple-L but -not- with right-click on chat tab.

(In  21c1813a173a) When opening for a contact, don't silently switch the search type to "to". Fixes #12001.

This also moves the automatic selection below the "we're now updating for search" line, so that highlighting is applied to the log (since when it's asked to display, there's no search term for it).
