IRC does not let you use valid characters such as pipe

Go to preferences and accounts and try to add a new IRC Account.
In the dropdown pane, try to add characters, such as pipe ( | ), which are allowed in IRC (my IRC name is the|Navigator in other apps for example)

Expected: Character is typed.
Actual: Character is not typed and instead (if you press it enough times) you get a warning that the character is not allowed on the service.
